Skimming By

In the days since my surgery I haven't felt all that great. And before that I was on a special liquid diet and didn't feel all that great. And before that I had the stomach flu for a week and didn't feel all that great.

I think I felt great once back in early February.

Anyway, when times like this hit it's best just to coast by with life set to the 'easy' setting....meaning minimal housework, minimal cooking and minimal extra activities.

Basically, let the kids eat macaroni on the floor in their pj's in front of the TV.

I've always had a hard time with this concept. After my foot surgery, and now after this one. I like to keep the house a 'well oiled machine' and cook and clean and stick to a schedule. I even have a laundry schedule. Not to prove anything to anyone, but mostly to keep myself sane and try to do what's best for my family.

But right now it's just not happening. And you know what, I guess that's okay. The kids are still thriving, my husband still loves me and I'm still mildly sane.

Snow Day...Easter Eggs?

Those two things really don't go together, because around here we very rarely have Easter week snow storms. I remember once when I was high school (aka a millions years ago), we had a spring break blizzard. So, I guess it happens.

Tessa's spring break is actually next week so she got her first snow day of the year today! First snow day. March 25th. Really.

Mom is here helping me recover from surgery, so we painted eggs! On a snow day.

I tried to get a view of the snow outside behind them. We got about 7 inches total and still snowing.

If it looks like Tessa is wearing makeup, she is. More easy snow day entertainment.

We made hard boiled some of the eggs for our small group to eat tonight, but the kids were sad about giving them away. So mom blew out some for us to paint and keep as decoration. Charley was skeptical about the gross factor.

We've made an annual tradition of making silk dyed eggs, but this year we might not be up for it since it's a lot more work. If we get snowed in again next week, though...who knows!

Coming Clean

Life has been changing around here, so I figure it's time I share with you all. I know you will support and understand and maybe come along for the ride with me.

Meet Lily the Plug-In Car

We've had a newly leased car for over a week now and I just rode in it for the first time today. Partially because our family has been sick as dogs with a stomach virus and we didn't want anyone to puke it in, and partially because it spent some of the week parked at the airport waiting for Jeremy to return from his business trip.

So today we finally all got inside her and went for a ride around town.

This is Lily. Jeremy wanted to name her Electra but Tessa chose Lily and well...I guess she won. It's a plug in hybrid Ford C-Maxx. Not purely electric car, a plug in hybrid which regains it's battery charge when we plug it in at night. When it runs out of charge, it runs on a gas engine but sometimes that can take up to a 100 miles before it happens. So gas mileage is our friend!

We've had hybrids for some time now but never a plug in one. It's kind of like a spaceship inside because of it's huge front dash and windows and millions of buttons. I'm assuming when it's time for me to drive it, I'll know what to do.

I wanted to get a picture of me saying farewell to my 8 year old hybrid Escape, Scarlett...but when Jeremy went to trade her in, I was in bed with a fever. She was the greatest Mom-mobile and the car I brought my babies home in. I really do miss her already, but maybe that's just because Lily is such a stranger.

I dug through pictures looking for one of Scarlett and couldn't find much, so this will have to suffice...
She sure was a good car.
